PADDLES UP! SCHOOL PROGRAMS PADDLING FOR KIDS AND YOUTH
Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society
There are three different programs available to schools; a one day, On-Water Paddling Experience, a one month, Competitive Youth Paddling Challenge and the Standard Youth Program.
All options include instruction, race management, and the use of all equipment (boats, paddles, personal floatation devices (pfd)).
Two locations are available: False Creek in Vancouver and Richmond Yacht Club in Richmond.
Program Overview
One Day On-Water Experience This program is for elementary school children and their teachers who just want a fun and rewarding experience on the water. Cost is based on a per child basis. Minimum number of children per program is 16. Price includes use of all equipment, instruction, steers person and safety staff.
Cost: $10 per participant.
Competitive Youth Paddling Program: This program is for the high school paddling team that desires a more intensive training plan designed to maintain an excellent fitness level, refine their paddling skills, and provide an opportunity for competition. This program will participate in the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival, June 19 and 20, 2010 and the Dragon Zone Junior Regatta in May 2010. Standard Youth program: This program is for high school students who have already formed their team, and have their coaches and their sponsors, and do not need any further development help from The Society. Participation in the Ria Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival Races is free of charge to these Junior teams. There is a charge for the Dragon Zone Paddling Club practices and the Dragon Zone Junior Regatta in May 2010 but the cost are much lower relative to the adult fees.
Because of the preparation for these regattas, paddlers in this program must be willing to commit to attending all practices, except for cases of injury or illness. The competitive program will not be capped, but coaches will later select paddlers eligible to compete at the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival. The number of Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival participants will be determined in part by the number of interested and qualified paddlers available.
Cost of program: $1000 per team includes 8 practices, instruction and coaching, use of coach boats and all other equipment, registration in the Dragon Zone Junior Regatta and the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival races.

CORPORATE PADDLING CHALLENGE
TURNING INDIVIDUALS INTO TEAMS
Dragon Zone Paddling Club can help you achieve a sense of personal satisfaction that you may have thought was beyond you.
Your staff will benefit from the expertise of Dragon Zone Paddling Club coaches to help build the qualities of cohesion, cooperation and strength of spirit that are typical of high performance teams.
We have created a training and competition program that will enable a select number of people to learn, or refine, their paddling skills.
The training component will help to develop the skill and fitness levels of your staff.
The competition phase will provide the opportunity for your crew to compete against other local business crews for recognition as the ultimate team players.
Training sessions will be held up to 12 weeks depending on your needs. Sessions will involve instruction in aspects of fitness, paddling technique, ergometer work and race tactics. Your team will take part in the mid-program regatta, racing over a 500m course, so that benchmark performances can be established. A rating system will operate to ensure that all crews are competitive. The program will culminate at the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival, June 19 and 20, 2010.
Cost: The cost of participation is $3900.00 plus gst, including up to 8 practices with coach, use of all necessary equipment, custom made team jerseys, and registration in the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival and the Dragon Zone Regatta.
